Its one of the three choices most E-Denial mesmers are going to pick.
This, Wither, or sometimes Panic.
Most will note that it is also used as the chain starter in EoE Bomb using Illusion of Weakness. They all get a target and all use E-Surge at same time than kill themselves immediently. Its used because 1)The suicide people part from their skills needed to sac themselves - have the rest of the bar to play with, and 2) The enemy monks might be stupid and start responding to the Surge dmg and be unprepared for the EoE Bomb.

Can i get somethign straight about this skill:
it drains the energy of 1 target, multiplies that damage by 8and then deals that damage to everyone in the area,
instead of just draining energy out of everyone in range and then dealing damage back based indidvidually on the amount of energy drained?

That's correct. The energy loss is single-target; only the damage is AoE.

But the Aoe dmg is based on the person hit's energy. even if they dont get the -energy.
If you you hit a guy with 10e with a -10 surge, he takes 80dmg, but the guy next to him that only has 5e to take would only take 40dmg.

And use Guildwiki..
There should just be a huge thing at the top of the forum saying...Before typing out anything on thesde forums you promise that you went to Guildwiki first.

This is incorrect. Everyone is hit for the same amount of dmg, based on the energy of the person who is first hit

yeah, the damage is entirely based on your first target's energy. If that target has 4 energy that target takes 40 damage and all others in the location take 40 damage

That post is from 3 months ago. You can hardly justify quoting it in a comment about Wiki's current server issues...(You can, BTW, still go to Wiki right now, its just slow and you might have to refresh a few times)

I always played the Esurger for my guild's build at that time, and I commonly Had E-surge do different dmgs to different people on its hit ...So based on that it is totally logical that I assume the different dmgs were based on something to do with the skill's dmg determinent.
Whether this was a strange glitch in my damage indicators at the time, or the skill behavior being changed, or some of the targets taking less dmg for other reasons (Maybe Prot Spirited and just happened to have an hp total that was a multiple of 100, misleading me into thinking E-surge was making the dmg that total)
Either way, sorry for the misinformation from months ago.

Sorry about the vent
I am sorry this came out the way it did.
My intention was to point out that having more than one web database is a good thing. Guildwars is a large enough game that one website will have trouble supporting it's whole demand, as we have seen with Guildwiki since NightFall came out.
you never know when something might take a site down.
sorry your comment got used, it just peeved me to go to one good website and get told that the other one (currently extremely slow) had to be checked first.
Thank you for your patience
Nadrae
